I was out doing yard work with my old dog (small dog, ex wife's choice) once and noticed a hawk circling... It kept tightening up the circles and getting a little lower so I took her inside. When I came back out the hawk was perched right on the fence staring at the door...

Similar thing happened to my brother while we were speaking to each other on the phone. He was in Yosemite National Park, and had just got his dinner from a little store in the valley, a burrito and a bottle of Dr. Pepper. He had his phone in one hand and his burrito in the other. He set his burrito down for a second, while he opened up his soda, and a raccoon came up and stole it right off the bench next to him.
Hearing it 2nd hand though the phone was one of the odder thing I've ever listened to. I thought he was getting mugged.
The icing on the cake was the fact that the store where he bought it had closed, and nothing else was open, so he had to go without dinner that evening.
It's not exactly like getting your child taken by an eagle, but to hear him scream at that raccoon, you'd never guess it.
Saw this on reddit, and first thought before seeing it was fake, but I know some of those birds can carry off small dogs. Kind of brazen with a parent right there.
The only reason I didn't say "Totally Fake" from the beginning, is that we've had a Red tail Hawk move into the nature perserve that serves as my backyard. I was out washing cars a couple of weeks ago, and he sat in the tree in the neighbors yard for about 10 minutes watching me. I bent down on the grass in my yard to wash out the sponge and I literally could hear him coming. I looked up and he flew about the height of my head and only about 10 feet away from me to my left. My wife was watching out the window when it happened and she said she though for sure he was coming after me.
Not sure if he was trying to prove territory or what on me, but it was kind of freaky. Especially seeing that 4 footish or so wingspan swooping at you.
Two months ago, I'd have said total ******** instantly seeing that video. Now, having adults around doesn't seem to be a deterrent.
