Re: 135 to Des moines and Desmoines 1-80 west road reports from the past 2 hours

I was just on ! 80 by Avoca/Wanut exits and it is just light slush in places, I expected it was breaking up east of here also. The conditions listed are not real accurate. 180/35 in Des Moines is listed as ice or snow covered, but on the traffic speed map it lists the speed as fast in places. I guess I just want things to go off as planned.

I haven't been, but I drove from Indianola to Altoona at normal speed, and then everything turned to **** at I80 over and up 35 to Ankeny. Not sure how the rest of it is.

Ankeny to Story City was slow at 7am. Should be a lot better now.

My guess is it'll be a 3.5 hour drive instead of a 2. Roads are still a little packed/icy.

I'm sure it has improved since this am, but after hubby drove from Ames to Clive on I-35/235 he said we would not be traveling up I-35 north to MN unless the roads improved drastically. So I'm assuming they were pretty rough yet in the morning. We'll see what his pm assessment is.

    FWIW-
On my lunch break a lot of the streets around my office had some slush but were mostly just wet.

I would assume the interstates would be even better due to more overall traffic? The sun is helping for now (not necessarily once everything freezes again).

City streets are going to be different than the interstate. Especially around the Elkhart exit where there is just nothing but farmland even just a little wind will blow the snow onto the interstate. Should probably wait it out one more day to be safe.
