It really isn't their problem. I worked there for a semester and drove. You could either park in metered parking on a street or metered parking up by Cyclone. The last year, I lived in Cyclone so it was nice that it was nearby and it really wasn't that bad of a place to work even though we complained. You could make pretty decent money. I would tell any freshman to try and get in there early because you could work your way up in time and be making decent money for a college job where you chose your hours and never worked a weekend.

If anything, looking back on that mess now I see it as more of an interesting case study in brand loyalty, bad decisions, and hearsay.

I will definitely agree with that. I didn't go to Papa's a lot but I did at times when they had something special going on and I enjoyed the place to be honest. It had room and it seemed like you could get served quickly. I just heard a lot of people say they wouldn't go there because it sucked without ever being there.

It had much more to do with them not knowing what they were getting into when they decided to renovate the building. I think it ran over budget by at least 7 figures and they made terrible management hires. Zmolek had both feet out the door for many years before it happened anyway, he was just on the hook money-wise. If anything, blame him for running the business into the ground. At least the owners tried to improve the product.

As a student I'm constantly hearing about what People's, The Fox, and what VEISHEA was really like. They finally find a suitable replacement for People's (I love me some Yoke's) and the Chicha Shack and Angies are staples. The city of Ames already tried to destroy campustown with their plan to "reform" and remodel it (which thank god it didn't pass) and wanted to make The Welch area a more "Family" area with more businesses and craft shops..This is college, college isn't for old fogies wanting to buy arts and crafts or my grandparents riding around looking at ****, those people can stay on campus. The school already is trying to make VEISHEA suck for the last few year by moving concerts and drinking..College and Campustown is for the Students, and that's what it should only be intended for. Who cares if we love our ****** bars and food stands, it drives more students to Iowa State than some of our academic programs, lets be honest

What now I can't speak my mind? Does there need to be a "Free Speech Zone" on CF, just like that debacle on campus last year..It's stuff like this..

Have you ever been to state street in Madison, or Aggieville in Manhattan. That is what the city wants. They weren't trying to get rid of bars. At the end of the day, the bars have live off of 9 months income. If they can't they are going to die. It is in the businesses best interest to try to attract people other than students to Campus Town.

Ahh, college...where one can virulently defend both the right to free speech, and the right to drink copious amounts of cheap beer and pee on the floor.
