Do not try to lift weights the next day. I learned the hard way.

My best piece of advice: follow the icing rules exactly how they say. My doctor had me ice 20 minutes on, 40 minutes off for the first 24 hours. I did exactly that, even set alarms through the night and had absolutely zero problems. No swelling and no pain. The only pill i took was the one they make you take when you leave the office.

Re: Getting Wisdom Teeth out tomorrow, advice?
I only had one taken out, and they didn't knock me out. I bled pretty bad for awhile after too. I was really scared of dry sockets so I didn't eat real solid foods for a couple of weeks and when I did I ate on the side opposite the extracted tooth side.

Get your Templeton Rye fix tonight.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: Getting Wisdom Teeth out tomorrow, advice?
Don't drink anything through a straw while you're healing. The suction used to pull the drink up can also suck the clot right out as well, causing a dry socket. Biggest risk of this is usually when you're feeling almost back to normal, about 2 weeks in.
Its really not as bad as you'll probably psych yourself up into thinking. I went drinking the same day, which was probably stupid. I ate a bunch of those tractor tire style donuts, which were soft and easy to eat.

Re: Getting Wisdom Teeth out tomorrow, advice?
Why are you getting them removed? Do they hurt? Doc told me we should yank mine because "you'll run into trouble"... 20 years later and I'm fine. I often wonder if this is a scam.

It is worth the preventative measures. If left in they can lead to this: -

I often wonder if this is a scam. Just because one person doesn't have trouble with them doesn't make it a scam. Lot's of people smoke and live to be 90, but it doesn't mean people who say smoking is bad for your health are scamming you.
If your mouth is to small it can screw up your existing teeth, especially if you had braces and spend a lot of money to make them straight. They can also come in sideways. I'm sure there is a lot of other stuff that could go wrong. Congrats on getting lucky though.

As it turns out, over two-thirds of cases of wisdom tooth extractions are completely unnecessary says Dr. Jay Friedman DDS in a study published in the American Journal of Public Health.
All I'm saying is since my dental insurance ran out there has been no mention of wisdom tooth removal. But yes, they do cause a lot of people problems, which is why I was asking him if they hurt.

I would rinse my mouth with salt water every so often to help prevent infection. Waking up the next morning after having them out was scary!! Looked in the mirror and noticed my mouth was black from all the oozing overnight.

Re: Getting Wisdom Teeth out tomorrow, advice?
I only ever had one out and she was supposed to put me out. I don't do pain well at all. They didn't tell me I couldn't drive all day afterwards. I thought I could just sit in the waiting room a bit then be on my way. Long story short, they gave me a local and the oral surgeon cracked it and pulled in about 30 seconds and it was over. I couldn't believe it. They warned me about dry socket so I tried pretty hard to do what they suggested. No problems. My dentist also is in the "don't pull them unless you're having problems camp". I've only ever had one pulled.
No matter what, I could NEVER cheer for Dirt and Urine.
