Re: Do you Tip Furniture Delivery guys or not?
I never have, but I always think about it after they leave. I've only had movers for a company-funded relocation, and my company told me in both instances that the movers were paid for, so I didn't feel compelled to tip them. I did hook them up with some drinks and snacks though, so I figure that was good.
As for carrying out food, I don't tip. You tip your server for the service you get. If you're picking it up, you already had to drive to get the food, pick it up, bring it back to your place, and set it up for consumption. You effectively became the server in that instance, to my way of thinking.

So when a Pizza Hut charges a $2 delivery fee, do you tip the driver at all?
In my mind it makes sense not to tip in that case, but I always wonder if the driver sees some or all of that, or if he still relies on tips.

I hate the small wage rely on tip type jobs. Its horse **** for your employees. A tip is a bonus, noone should be penalized for it.
Re: Do you Tip Furniture Delivery guys or not?
I didn't used to but I read somewhere that you should. It seems like most guys in this area don't expect it. If there are two of them I usually slip them each a $5 and say something like why don't you guys hit McDonald's on your way back and we all chuckle and then they probably get in their truck and say man that guy was a dick.

I worked a lot of years in full-service restaurants when I was younger and I can tell you that I never once got a tip for preparing a carry-out order. I've gotten so if they're real nice and I can see they've double-checked everything and really cared about getting my order right I'll give them 10% but usually not more than that for a carry-out order.

I see why people can think like this but it really sucks for the people breaking their back moving your furniture in since they don't see a dime of the "delivery fee"
Re: Do you Tip Furniture Delivery guys or not?
I always give food deliveries a 10% tip and furniture/movers 10 to 20 bucks and a six pack. I understand the annoyance with the delivery fee, but it's a small amount of money for a nice, positive human interaction.
Re: Do you Tip Furniture Delivery guys or not?
Heck no. I've never heard of anyone tipping a furniture delivery guy. Who does that?

True but there are other jobs out there. Tipping can be nice, but noone should expect it. I delivered a bit of furniture in college and never got a tip. It was crappy back breaking work and I moved on.

As did I in college for a summer, maybe about 10 to 20 percent of people would throw me a tip which was nice. I didn't expect it though.
Not everyone who works there can move on to another job as easy as a college kid

Its moving furniture, its not rocket science, there are plenty of other service type jobs out there. Maybe not the glamorous types but they pay the bills until you can apply yourself differently. I dont mean to sound cold about it, everyones situation is different, but Ive been there.

I don't tip at all. If the driver does not see any of that $2, its on his/her employer, not me.
Re: Do you Tip Furniture Delivery guys or not?
Depending on how much furniture they are delivering will determine how much I tip. If it is just one item usually $5 each. When I was in Arizona a little over a week ago my parents had quite a bit of new furniture delivered, my mom didn't want to tip but I gave the 2 guys $20 each.

That's not on me, that's on the employer. If I'm paying a "delivery fee", I assume I am paying for just that, the delivery. How the employer distributes my delivery fee is up to them, not me.
