Re: Do you Tip Furniture Delivery guys or not?
I wonder who decided who gets tipped and who doesn't. Why does the bartender get $1 for opening a beer bottle when the guy at McDonald's gets nothing for making my food? Why does the pizza guy get $2-3 for driving over my pizza but the guy that loads groceries when its 0 degrees at Hy-Vee gets nothing? Why does the taxi cab driving get even more money on top of a ridiculous fair to drive me somewhere when the community bus or school bus driver gets nothing?

Its a question I have always wondered as well. On the Hy-Vee one, it is, or at least it was when I worked there, Hy-Vee's policy to not accept tips.
Re: Do you Tip Furniture Delivery guys or not?
Worked at a grocery store for a few years hauling carts of groceries to their cars in all weather no matter what. It was miserable. A good amount of the well off would never tip me and wouldnt even thank me or acknowledge me at all honestly. Middle and lower income would be the most generous. I never expected it ever, but it always gave me a chuckle to see who did and who didnt. The store didnt want us accepting tips either but **** them, ill do as i please.

Must have been Fareway? I've never seen this done at other grocery stores, and always thought it was a really nice thing that Fareway emphasized.

I think you have a pretty good point. I kind of wondered about tipping barbers or hair dressers myself. I guess my family usually gave the school bus driver some sort of gift at Christmas like a box of homemade cookies. I have personally thanked my school bus driver many times since because I know it wasn't an easy job for him at times.
Re: Do you Tip Furniture Delivery guys or not?
Yes. Always, because I don't want to hall a giant bed/dresser/desk/fridge/whatever up and down stairs. Also, I'm not a cheap ******* like apparently some folks are.

You better tip every person who does the stuff you dont want to do. That list could probably get pretty long. It has nothing to do with being cheap for a majority of people. Yes there are some folks who do it just to be cheap, but I would bet they are minority.

I'll remember this during my next prostate examination. Lord knows I don't want to stick my own fingers in my ***.

Here's another one:
Do you tip the hotel housekeeper? Until a few years ago, I hadn't even considered it and then got into a conversation with someone who says you are supposed to.
I typically do not but if I'm extra messy, then I will. But I'm already paying $100+ per night to stay there, shouldn't that be covered in the cost?

Yeah I usually do $1-$2, but I usually don't have them clean my room every day. Sometimes I think they clean the room a little better too.
Re: Do you Tip Furniture Delivery guys or not?
Hm, I've never heard of tipping a hotel housekeeper. I almost always clean up after myself, though, so I don't think it's necessary.

Me as well. I do at restaurants to a point too to help the server clean up. My kids can destroy a table. I tend to leave a better tip when they do that. I just dont tip a whole lot outside of dining.

I do the same. I dated a girl that was a waitress and she pretty much trained me to gather all the items on the table and set them nicely at end to make it easier on the staff. They really appreciate that.
