Do you Tip Furniture Delivery guys or not?

We are getting a new couch today. Do you tip the delivery guys? If you tip them do you give them $10 or less or $11 or more?

i slipped the 2 guys that delivered my new matress last year 5$ a piece... just because they carried up a couple flights of stairs... not really knowing the protocol either.

no way could I have done that solo

I was curious about this as well. Of course I didn't think of it until after they left but was curious about that as well. Or what about when you order food at a place and pick up, do you tip then either? I usually only tip $1 there but wasn't sure what others do.

When we had our bedroom set delivered and assembled, I slipped them a twenty. It was heavy stuff. Same thing for our living room set. $20 bucks for heavy lifting and avoiding breaking anything in my house or dinging up my walls? Seems fair to me.

Was in the same dilemma a couple of months ago getting stuff from NFM. They literally ran my stuff from their truck to my living room. I was thinking of tipping but right when I signed papers they sprinted out. Must've been running late.

If its free delivery like I had, i don't feel like tipping is necessary

I'm curious about the furniture thing too. I would say yes tip them if it is a difficult move or something you couldn't do yourself. Or if they do a really good job (careful, quick, etc.)

In this second situation I don't usually tip. My opinion is there was really no service involved. They cook your food which you pay them for, you do the rest. Maybe I'm wrong there though?

My furniture delivery guy signed a contract, but never showed up and spent an entire two months tweeting about how he wouldn't deliver my couch until I had a protocol in place.

My wife ordered a bunch of expensive furniture, they drove it down from Minneapolis and set everything up in the rooms we wanted. I gave them each $50.

My rule of thumb is, if I pay a delivery fee for anything, you can kiss the tip goodbye.

At the end of the day, it's your money, but I've never tipped furniture delivery folks. Especially when there's already a delivery charge, the money going to them notwithstanding.

yep. Delivery fee = tip as far as I'm concerned.

I used to do $1, but then I thought it the hostess doing it and really they are just putting in the order for me, so I don't any more.
