Two hearted ale is one of my all time favorites although Surly Furious may have overtook it. I've found Hopslam at HyVee in the past. Particularly Mills Civic.

That may be the case with some of them. However most of them are brewed with Carafa III, and other dark malts that aren't supposed to be "roasty". The goal is always to brew them while not having those flavors. If they're hopped enough, there shouldn't be much of a malt profile that comes through anyway, and the citrusy hop profile should be very apparent.
Stone had a couple of good ones. I haven't had many that stand out, but the Stone ones are superb.

Plus, they have very cool labels with all the adjectives describing the beer.
And I lied, it's an oatmeal porter not an imperial porter (though I swear I they called it that at some point).

Re: Best Dark Beer?
Hopslam should be around here in a few days actually! The 17th I believe it starts shipping into Iowa.

Re: Best Dark Beer?
I was in Okoboji for Winter Games, and stopped in at the brewery. Its a lot better than when I tried it out of the cans that they were having made at Great River, about this time last year.
I didn't like the Boji Blue at all out of a can when I had tried it in the past, but it was enjoyable fresh on tap. No major hop bombs, but a nice assortment of easy drinking, flavorful beers. They have potential.

I dont know if you can drink a whole one of those by yourself. I am not the biggest dark beer guy though. Usually really enjoy to medium darkness beers. Brown ales, Scotch ales, that kind of thing. You need to come back on here and tell me your thoughts on it later.
