No Death Star this year....
The White House finally responds to a petition to build a death star and the response is awesome. https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/res...-youre-looking
"The Administration shares your desire for job creation and a strong national defense, but a Death Star isn't on the horizon. Here are a few reasons: - The construction of the Death Star has been estimated to cost more than $850,000,000,000,000,000. We're working hard to reduce the deficit, not expand it.
- The Administration does not support blowing up planets.
- Why would we spend countless taxpayer dollars on a Death Star with a fundamental flaw that can be exploited by a one-man starship?"

"This Isn't the Petition Response Your'e Looking For"
Classic. At least someone there knows how to do things. This man should be the next POTUS. I don't care about any of this other qualifications, it would be a fun four years.

They could at least build an AT-AT to hunt terrorists or something. I feel like its just as practical on the modern battlefield as a nuclear sub and will probably be significantly cheeper to design and build.

If the Russians start building a death star I expect to follow suit.

Already in the works (sort of):
We don't have a Death Star, but we do have.......... the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, which is supporting research on building Luke's arm, floating droids, and quadruped walkers.

In the future if the government builds the Death Star I hope they spend the extra 20 bucks and put a steel grate over the exhaust.

A steel grate isn't going to stop two proton torpedoes. That exhaust was a simple design flaw. Although necessary, you can't have direct access to the reactor core from the surface. That architect has a LOT of explaining to do.
