Started looking to rent a house with some friends for the next school year and thought I might as well try here too. We prefer a house in west of campus. If you know of any, please post it here or PM me! (And if you have landlord details.)

I live exactly 1 mile from Jack Trice. I think it's closer than say, Perfect Games area.

Also, cyride is one block from my apartment. It takes less than 5 minutes to get to campus. And I got commuter lot close by if need be.

I would check the daily and craigslist; that's your best bet. Also, stay away from Martin Property Management if they're still around

Well if he's talking down West St or on Campus, Hyland, or Hillcrest area that would be an easy 5 to 10 minute walk to campus and walkable to the bars or even Jack Trice. Lived on Hillcrest for 2 years and Howard st for 1 year and it was the perfect location for being able to walk to the bars and class.

This. Lived on campus then down West Street. Only time I took CyRide was one time to the mall as a freshman before I had a car. Easy walk down West Street.

Where I live is 1.9 miles from the memorial union.

Perfect Games is 2.7 miles from the memorial union.

New Middle School is 2.1 miles from the memorial union.

West HyVee is 1.3 miles from the memorial union.

Most apartments are between the new middle school and perfect games.

For some reason, many people believe that East Ames is far out from campus, when in reality, it's just as close, if not closer, than most apartments in West Ames.

Actually, its improved. I live near Target, Panera, Super Walmart, McDonalds, HyVee, Cinemark Movies 12, B-Bops, Chipotle, Burger King, etc...

I think there is more to do in East Ames, just missing a bowling alley. More food, more shopping, and closer to campus.

And if you really want to go bowling, drive 5 minutes to West Ames.

I feel we need a googlemap on this one . . . what is your definition of "East" Ames? If you're not east of Grand, you're not in East Ames, IMO.
