Been knocking around the idea of getting another handgun (had an old SW 686 YEARS ago) for awhile so I MIGHT admit to pulling the trigger on the deal based on the rhetoric from both sides.
Anyway, wanted a Glock 17 (or maybe 19) Generation 4 but there are non-existent. Cabellas can't keep them in stock. In fact, the gun shops I went to were having a hard time keeping the QUALITY 9mm stocked.
I ended up with the S&W M&P 9 Pro. Full size frame but still light like the Glocks. Gun holds 17+1 and has the various sizes of backstraps to somewhat customize the fit.
5 day waiting period started yesterday (Tuesday) and my wife and i have a date night at the gun range NEXT Tuesday night. Pretty sexy date night, huh? I know how to treat a lady!
Anyone have firing experience with the M&Ps? I tried to make sense of the various reviews since by-and-large nobody had anything bad to say about any gun so I went with a trusted name and relied on a gun enthusiast's recommendation.
Also a little ammo shortage in these parts (Eastern Washington)... you will love the M&P, it's a great line of firearms from the M&P 15 down to the Shield. All extremely accurate, reliable, and American made. I have the full size and its a lot of fun at the range. Ammo is getting tight and expensive. I think I'm going to start collecting my brass and reloading. Enjoy

Re: Just bought a gun!!!!
I inherited a 16 gauge a month ago. Never shot it before, haven't shot a gun in like ten years actually. But it was my dads that he inherited from his dad, who I believe inherited it from his dad.

Congrats to you! I'm not really a Glock man, way to nonconform
Now learn to shoot it, lock it up and take your CCP class -

Also a little ammo shortage in these parts (Eastern Washington)... Nice work there. Wifey loves shooting date nights at our place (yeah she's a keeper). I think you'll end up loving your S&W 9. I had one and traded it and still regret it. I think it's a more comfortable Glock - accurate, reliable, really great controls and less chunky feeling than the Glock 19. My favorite is my Colt 1911 hands down, but I loved my S&W9. In 9mm I currently shoot the Ruger SR9 (17+1) because I liked the slimmer profile and the fit in my hand. Feels closer to the S&W. I have loved my Glocks but as I've gotten older, I have found I like the thinner profile of some other models. I have been looking at a pair of Springfield XDMs lately, and still look at S&W from time to time but I'm going to wait and see if prices come down in a few months. It's not a need as much as a want. For carry lately, I have been using my Kel-tec PF-9 - love that little 12.5 ounce gun. I also have a Kahr CW45 for carry that I like but don't love. I think I may end up looking seriously at the new XDS models from Springfield for by big carry gun for cold weather carry. I'm hoping things calm down a bit from an availability standpoint once we get past this "banic" period.
Regardless, I think you've made a great choice and be careful as those guns tend to have babies if you let them.
Cheers

I went to the gun show this past weekend to look at this, specifically. It seems like a great little package. The feel is just like a thinner XDm. I was afraid that they would try to shrink it down too much. This will probably be my next purchase as I love my XDm compact.
