Has to be better than the prequels. Kinda weird to have the same guy taking over both the Star Trek and Star Wars franchises.... but at least it is somone who knows how to make a good movie.
I think the 18 years or so from the end of three to the start of four would make a great movie. Darth Vader and the emperor dominating and oppressing. And then you remake four with a way more visual appealing take on Luke turning into a Jedi and taking out the death star.

During 3.5, you show Luke growing up and being affected by the empire, then in remake of 4 you can tie that in with more reference and develop the story of taking down the empire better. So if the original 4 is the cliff notes, the remake is the actual book. Maybe it's multiple movies. The story of Jedi's almost dying out and then rebuilt starting with this one kid is a good one.
Add me into the group wishing for a 3.5 rather than a VII. :(

I think it'd be cool if they made it less of a "good vs. evil" story and made Vader the central character. Kindof like The Godfather.
There are a couple of books that tell the story from Darth Vaders POV. Not everything, but it gives you internal dialog during a lot of the key parts. Really interesting.
Maybe JJ should just remake the original Trilogy from the POV of the Ewoks.
Thoughts?
“They're very, very hard to guard,” Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey said. “They're really good. And with Niang in the middle kind of wheeling and all those guys spreading you out, they're kind of a nightmare matchup. And they're men. They're really men.”
