A small group of us used to get together once a week and watch our way through horror series. Halloween I and II are actually really good movies, shot and directed very well despite very low budgets - so they probably win for me. (Halloween III: Season of the Witch may be the worst movie ever, however.)

If Halloween III would have been titled anything other than Halloween (insert) it would be considered a minor classic. Remove the Halloween baggage and it's a really good movie.
The original Saw is great. had to rewind it to watch the ending again. I dont know if Identity would count as a horror movie or not, but it is a great movie.

I would probably call it a Psychological thriller but I agree that it is a good movie.
I do like the Saw series and also Halloween. I never really got into the Jason series but I did like some of the Freddys.

See, when I first saw it, I thought being part of the Halloween franchise legitimized it, the first two movies really were well done. But the weird Stonehenge stuff was pretty far out there.
Now, I will say that the Friday the 13th where Jason's heart comes out of his chest and walks around killing people is worse. I don't remember which one that is, maybe "Jason Takes Manhattan" or something?
The original "Night of the Living Dead" is still a classic in my opinion.
On a related note I see they did a remake of "The Evil Dead" which appears to be a homage to the original without all the camp. Of course they changed the lead from a male to a female as they seem to do with every remake. Evil Dead (2013) - IMDb
They say country music speaks to the heart. Unfortunately, it has to go through your ears to get there.
