Re: X Games Athlete Dies
saw it live. Was brutal and frightening.
The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come. -

I am saying **** happens. People die from tripping and falling. What are you trying to say with can this "event" go away? People die in sports all the time, wrecks in races, hearts conditions killing people on the field. You seem like the kind of guy who sat out in PE because kickball and tag were too physical. I bet you only participated during parachute day.

I don't have any great love for the x-games, but still very sad.

Re: X Games Athlete Dies
The Snowmobile event probably isn't going away. It's a dangerous activity, but these are professional riders who know the risks and consequences. There's a reason they don't allow just anyone to enter the X-Games.
Will they ban inverted tricks in this discipline? Maybe. But it's a trick Caleb had landed many times before. Almost every year a park or slopestyle skier or boarder dies warming up for a competition or even in competition (not necessarily xgames) while practicing tricks they've landed hundreds of times. It's sad, but skiing (or any action sport) would be pretty freakin boring if there wasn't some danger to it.
Watch the 1999 Winter XGames Ski Big Air competition and then watch the 2013 Ski Big Air or halfpipe. People are going bigger, higher, more inverted aerials than ever before. It's the progression of the sport.

Re: X Games Athlete Dies
Sometimes it is hard to feel sorry for the guy who died trying to do backflips on a 450lb snowmobile.
Maybe I am just heartless.

Re: X Games Athlete Dies
It's a free country. These guys go in knowing that they are taking risks, and are almost always true professionals in what they do. We could probably all walk around with bubble wrap on, but that wouldn't make for a very interesting world, would it?

Re: X Games Athlete Dies
Durring one event, they had one guy die and in a separate incident had a "runaway snomobile" go INTO the crowd. They are lucky they didn't have multiple fatalities. This isn't normal. X Games GoPro Runaway SnowMobile - YouTube -
