    Bring on the spread!

NFL considering widening the field by 35 feet in attempt to avoid injuries. Just in time for Chip Kelly and to start his reign of terror in the NFL.

    Y! SPORTS

As the article states, obvious logistic barriers are present in current stadium size/layout.

that would be interesting if the NCAA would adopt the same rule. Some stadiums might not be able to fit a larger field without taking out some seats, Kinnick comes to mind.

Because the defenses need yet another disadvantage.

The Competition Committee isn't even looking at that as an option.

    Re: Bring on the spread!

Just widen the field and add a 55 yard line, and the Bears' new coach would be right at home.

Exactly! There is a balance the NFL needs to maintain, imo. Yeah, everyong likes a good offensive game, but if it turns into the arena league and last team to touch the ball, footballs dominance will soon slip, imo.

If it helps to prevent injuries I'm all for it. I believe that was the idea behind it in the first place. Since the field is wider there would be less straight on hard hits.

If you don't want to get injured you shouldn't play American football, imo.

At least that used to be the case. Nowadays the Tom Brady's of the world can play & barely get touched.

This means our linebackers would be smaller and faster. Maybe some more sideline interceptions to the house. More onside kicks.

If you are worried about injuries and contact go bowling, football is about hitting and contact.
