Why so many accidents on I-80

I-80 between Colfax and Newton seems to have more than their share of accidents that close down the interstate.

    Why is this?

If i had to guess its the truck traffic.

We were on there a few years ago after the duke game in chicago, truckers were practically running people off the road.

The snow is really heavy wet snow which is harder to drive in so more people lose control.

People pass semis and forget that the semi is protecting them from the wind -> Get past semi and catch the breeze -> Cause accident

Pretty sure if we look at the demographics we will discover that this area is densely populated.

    With women.

I mostly drive I-35 in Minnesota and Iowa but whenever I get over on I-80 in eastern Iowa and am amazed at the number of freakin' semi trucks and the overall traffic density. No easy freeway crusin', it's more like rush hour but at 75 mph.

Bad stretch with high traffic and lots of semis. Seems to be prone to blowing snow in that area also.

Re: Why so many accidents on I-80

I think it is the really high traffic. 3 interstates dump into 80 east at Des Moines (i35N, I35S, I80) plus all the traffic from Chicago that is west bound that will split off into 80, 35N and 35S going west.

I'll be jelly when you're in a ditch with your truck nuts.
