I would rank them: 1. Outback 1(tie). Texas Roadhouse 2. Longhorn 3. Lone Star

I've been there once. It was about 2 hours after the ISU v KSU fb game last fall.
Got our name on the list and told 45 min wait. Ok, we will wait.
An hour went by and people who had larger parties were getting in before us.
So we asked if we were up soon, and they told us they lost our names.
About 45 more minutes later we were seated.
The food was okay.

Not too big of the place either but their pulled pork sandwich was great.

If you show up to the restaurant at 5pm in person, you put your name in, and you're in line.
If someone calls in as they're walking out the door of their house at the exact same time, they have their name in line to get line...but actually aren't "in line" until they get to the place.
Just seems like a shell game to me. Don't really believe their is anything gained by their system of "Calling ahead." Unless you believe it's permanently an hour to hour twenty wait.
Food is fine though.

Re: First time at Texas Roadhouse - Disappointed
Is the willingness to wait an hour (or more) an Iowa thing? A few years ago, wife and I went to the Olive Garden in DSM and were told it would be 2 hours until we were seated. At Olive Garden! And... people were waiting!!! At (have I mentioned this?) the freaking OLIVE GARDEN!
I grew up in Omaha (though I have been in in central IA for over a decade) - maybe it is because there are more restaurants, and more densely located, but, even on a weekend, if it is more than 30-45 minutes, we were out the door and on to somewhere else.

Why would people wait that long for a higher priced applebees?

The one in my town is good. Not a lot of wait time and the steak is good. Of course, there's WAY better options in my neck of the woods.

speaking of restaurants, there is a new (I'm guessing more upscale due to its location) Italian restaurant coming to Ames. Guess Who's Coming to Somerset? - Ames, IA Patch
