Going to be an uncle

Be prepared because they grow up fast. I have a nephew in his 3rd year at the Air Force academy. It seems like he was a baby just a short time ago.

If you are uncles are anything like mine the appropriate drinking age and the legal drinking age differ by a few years.

Second this. It feels like the phone call telling me that I was an uncle was just a few weeks ago.

My niece is now in her freshman year at ISU, and I watched her little brother play on the sophomore basketball team at Cedar Falls a few weeks ago. Time definitely flies. You've got to do what you can whenever you can.

As an uncle, I thought it my responsibility to teach my nephew phrases that his mother wouldn't approve of, like "Give me a bucket!" or "You're milking my lizard." My brother and I also let him help us whenever we were building something or working on a vehicle. He turned out alright.

Oh absolutely. It was always a 'don't tell your mom about this' type of thing.

Southeast of KC.... They live in Sedalia, which is by Columbia.

It makes me happy to see uncles and aunts to be excited about it. I don't know if it was because I was the youngest, by a lot, but I really didn't care all that much. I've got great relationships with them now, and always have I guess, but it's cool to see you guys take pride in this. They will be much better off with caring adults within the family.

I have to say I'm pretty excited that my niece is having a baby any day now, so does that make me a Great Uncle?

Okay. Basically I wanted to see if this child was going to be a Royals fan. I know you'd push hard for it anyway. My advice is to make sure their second favorite team in the Central is the Twins. Nothing else would be acceptable. Also take them to Target Field for a Twins-Royals game when they're old to understand the game a bit.

Both my brother and sister in law are Royals "fans" so the child will probably be a Royals fan. Not promising anything for the Twins. I will however make sure to take him/her to the K on a regular basis if I'm in KC after graduation.
