Re: Child suspended for poptart gun....
I'm very concerned about my five year old next year. He will do the same kind of thing and doesn't understand that he can't do them or he will get in trouble at school this fall. It's one thing for them to get into a bit of trouble over something like this. Suspension is way over the top kind of like most zero tolerance policies.

Re: Child suspended for poptart gun....
when will people learn that the answer is not less poptarts, but more poptarts? We just need to put them in the hands of the right people. Every teacher, administrator, and janitor should be required to carry a Poptart, Post Toast 'em, or Toaster Strudel.
Now, I know what you're thinking. What happens the first time a teacher mistakes a student with nutra-grain bar for a threat with a Poptart? Well, you have to break a few eggs to make an omelet.

Every teacher, administrator, and janitor should be required to carry a Poptart, Post Toast 'em, or Toaster Strudel. Toater Strudel will not hold up in the rigors of your average public school. Staff will find themselves defenseless with only a pile of crumbs when they really need their toaster pastry.

Re: Child suspended for poptart gun....
Serious Questions now.
When I was a kid, I always loved to draw army guys shooting at each other, and planes coming in dropping bombs. Or nijas having a big epic battle.
How is that handled now in schools? Are these considered bad behaviors and seen as a potential threat? I am worried about my boys, because I know they love to draw the same things.

A symptom of gutless administration. Rather than leave it to common sense and a case by case basis, they have a zero tolerance policy that prevents the need to grow a set of balls and make a judgement call.

If they make judgement calls they'll be sued by some parents and probably lose their jobs. It's a tough situation.

This reminds me back in HS, a kid got suspended for a cardboard sword. I would always argue that there were a lot more dangerous things. Like the females who kept hairspray and lighters (because they smoked) in their lockers.
