Rhode Island Vacation
My wife and I are looking at places to take a vacation in July. We are looking at possibly going to Rhode Island. Has anyone on here taken a vacation there before? I would like to hear if it would be worth while, where to stay, what to do, etc. We would probably be there for four or five days.

Re: Rhode Island Vacation
So, you are choosing RI on purpose, or is this some sort of self-punishment vacation?
Now I must wonder, do any people from RI plan vacations to Iowa?

You know it isn't an island, right? :)

How about Connecticut? -

Re: Rhode Island Vacation
I've never vacationed in Rhode Island...but I've been there, and I can't see why anyone would ever want to take a vacation there.
If you're looking for a 4-5 day trip, you could see quite a bit of New England, and almost all of it is more interesting/beautiful/fun/historic/etc. than Rhode Island.

I'm pretty sure you guys are being sarcastic, but Delaware is actually pretty cool. The beaches are beautiful and virtually deserted outside of Rehoboth, which makes them very accessible and relaxing. Surf fishing is incredibly fun. Inland is littered with tons of small little towns with local shops and fruit stands.
Albeit, I probably wouldn't fly halfway across the country to vacation in Delaware, but it's an amazing little getaway that's only about 2-3 hours from DC.

Make sure you go see the red chickens.
I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong. -
Re: Rhode Island Vacation
I have spent a bit of time in RI and really love Newport. The Breakers, Marble House and a number of other Gilded Age summer homes are really something to see. 4-5 days in RI may be a bit much but you could do a little more of New England but I think Newport (especially the cliff walk) is certainly worth seeing at least once.

Nice place called The Drunken Clam in Quahog.
(hey, someone was going to do it sooner or later)

I understand Providence is a dump

Re: Rhode Island Vacation
Ocean > anything Iowa offers vacation wise imo, so that was a dumb comment about them vacationing here.
To the OP, what kinds of things do you enjoy doing? Personally, I have great vacations by chilling mostly, a bit of site seeing. I love going to the oregon coast and just relaxing there, campfires at night, etc. It's a relatively short jaunt to Boston from Providence if you want to spend some time oceanside, and then see the historical sites there or enjoy some nightlife, maybe take in a red sox game.

I don't do signatures. Blondes, brunettes, and red heads are a different story. -
Re: Rhode Island Vacation
I believe you can substitute Rhode Island in for Delaware.
