The burger at Matt's is good. It's kind of a crappy hole in the wall place with no seating though. If you go during busy times expect to wait. They also only take cash. I've heard there are other places around St. Paul that are better than both Matt's and 5-8, even though they are both the claimed originals. I thought Matt's burger was way better than 5-8.
Matt's all day. 5-8 only has the option of doing different cheeses in their's, Matt's is better as just the original. I second the cash, no need to pay a $4 service fee at the ATM there. I dunno if I believe some other place could be better than Matt's. Something about a griddle that hasn't been replaced since the 30's and is constantly seasoned day to day makes those burgers the best.

5-8 isn't very good imo. Nothing to write home about. Get your surly furious on... Also, abrasive ale is out right now, but at $16 a 4 pack you likely won't be taking too many of those home with you.
