I'll have to try Tacos Marianas. Not sure about Old West since I rarely get to that part of town. My wife loves Mexican, so we have been to a LOT of the Mexican restaurants around town. Some of my favorites:
Los Laurales down by the capital
Pueblo Viejo on E 14th
El Azteca in Ankeny (use to eat there in Ames a lot)
And if you are feeling adventurous you could try Taqueria Sonora just off of 63rd. The place is a dump, and while the staff was nice the service sucked. But the food was really good the one time we went there. I don't know what "authentic" mexican food is, but if I had to guess this was the closest I have had (followed by Los Laurales). I am planning on going back.
