Both my kids came home from school with the same impressions. All people who smoke are evil criminals who want to kill you. I told them look, it's a bad habit and I hope you never do it and I'll bet a lot of people who do wish they didn't. But just because someone smokes doesn't make them a bad person. It just means they're a person with a bad habit.
I was surprised how hard I really had to fight them to get this to sink in. Their eyes got about as big as saucers when I told them just about all their grandparents had been smokers at some point in their lives!
Not trying to take this to the cave but I find it ironic that in today's obviously left-leaning classrooms that purport to teach tolerance that people who smoke are vilified in such a way.
Even though the percentage of US smokers is dropping the tobacco companies still seem to be making plenty of profit. MO (Altria) is up 15% and RAI (Reynolds) is up 18% over the past year. That plus paying close to 5% dividends.
