There are some things they carry, or at least used to, that are pretty hard to find elsewhere. Usually electronic components, or stupid little things like project boxes or soldering supplies. Sometimes it's easiest to buy specialty cables there as well, though it's seldom the cheapest.
I wouldn't buy anything else electronic there to save my life, though.

You can't get the highly knowledgeable sales people at Target that they have at CompuUSA though.....
I made the mistake of asking a question in that store one time. After the pimple faced kid went through 3 other pimple faces kids I still didn't have an answer.

Nope. The nearest C.C. is Omaha and I have never heard or Fry's.

Personally, comp is no better. The go around and recruit people to work there. I was working at Best Buy when Comp was looking at trying to sell T.V's. They came to the store looking for answers and then asked for me to work there! I lost all found respect for them after that!

Okay, thought you meant target. Sorry...
Re: Rumor - All Of CompUSA Going Out Of Business
On the food chain I would put Compusa above BestBuy but I agree with others that NewEgg is the way to go. They should give me a discount, I've built 4 complete PC's from them and a lot of other stuff. Newegg and monoprice.com are my two favorites.
Re: Rumor - All Of CompUSA Going Out Of Business
So how much does it cost to build a pc versus buying one?

It used to be a lot cheaper but now it's about the same. Here are a few good things about building your own.
You can choose the case. You want a window, certain color, certain size, etc
You decide what software to load. Companies like Dell install a ton of crapware on your PC. Nothing against Dell I have a $400 laptop from them.
You can get top notch components. For example, with this last PC I built I wanted something silent. So I got a fanless video card, large fans, quiet case with hard drives that hang on suspended rubber bands, etc.
Very easy to upgrade compared to a normal PC. The Antec case I have allows you to have probably 5 hard drives.
You'll get a motherboard that will allow you to do a ton of things that a normal motherboard won't
Faster
If you're not wanting to play games you can build one hell of a PC for $600.

Really, $600. Wow. How about a laptop, those easy to build or just better to buy. As you can tell I'm an idiot when it comes to computers.

I would agree with this. They are definitely closer in price anymore. I do like alot of the manufacturers cases. Dell has some very cool cases that I wish I could find a knock off of. I have built all of mine. sometimes it just a fun project and you can tweak the heck out of it.

I've never tried to build a laptop but my guess is that it would be a lot more expansive than to buy and you wouldn't get some of the same advantages you get with building your own PC.
If you ever decide to build your own or have questions let me know. I like picking all the components out and building them.
I have a wishlist out on NewEgg right now,
