Rumor - All Of CompUSA Going Out Of Business

Chalk this up as a rumor for now but I've heard that all CompUSAs will be closing in late Jan or early Feb. They closed half their stores earlier this year and the rumor is that they've stopped all store shipments past January and they've contacted liquidators.

Who actually goes in there anymore? I mean what do they sell that no one else does? It was fine when they were the only ones that sold CDR's and hard drives, etc. But now you can get that stuff at target.

Well that's the thing, they're incredibly over priced and they don't have too much that's special. I used to get computer cables there and things like that whenever I built a computer but then NewEgg.com and TigerDirect started and it was a lot cheaper to go through them and they had a FAR better selection.

I compare CompUSA a lot to RadioShack in that they're both antiquated stores for today's world. Amazingly RadioShack is having great quarter after great quarter compared to most other retailers.

People still go to radio shack? I have been in there once in the last 5 years, and that was to get $5 in rg6 ends.

I bought my HD antenna there. There's some things I'd rather buy at a store. Mostly bigger things that I might want to return. The do have a lot of cool toys but I'm sure you can find them on the web too.

When we're doing research my professor always buys stuff there. We needed a small video screen to display the inside of sand casting molds, he had to go in there and drop $100 for one several times.

Exactly!! I don't user TigerDirect, but NewEgg ships stuff super quick. I've got a Big Fry's store in my neighborhood, and they carry a good selection of parts and such. I'm suprised CompUSA lasted as long as it did...

I am no expert, but I think they were a smaller electronics specialty store. You can pretty much get everything at Wal-mart, target, K-mart etc.... that you get from CompUSA and that is most of their problem. Why make a special trip to CompUSA to pick up a wireless router when you can get one 10 bucks cheaper at the place you get your grocery products and so on.

I consider them a "Dunder Mifflin" type place.
