I don't remember the exact settings but the PS3 is connected to my Denon A/V receiver and the music is delivered PCM via HDMI. This allows the receiver to do the processing.

multi-channel but I think that's only when it's hooked up to a receiver that does the processing.

I have an old Pioneer DVD-A /SACD player (a very early model) and it does the processing for you. It's now just sitting in a box waiting for ebay.
