Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative. Jeff, I noticed you joined just yesterday. Did you join after seeing this thread? How'd you know someone posted it on CF?

Re: Have you seen this guy yet?
DMBclone, I found this site from my video page on YouTube. I was checking the links to the video and the name "cyclonefanatic" got my attention big time. All I had to do was click on it from my video page and it brought me here. Thanks again to you and the other posters for the kind words and ideas for WIJ2. If anyone has the connections to help me dance with Cy and the ISU cheerleaders at a game next season, I will gladly do it. That @#$%&*!! Herky blew me off this year for a similar request. (I'm also a U of I grad, but since I did my undergrad at ISU, that's where my heart is!)

Re: Have you seen this guy yet?
Quick question, Jeff. What is the motivation? Just curious.
-
Re: Have you seen this guy yet?
This thing was motivated by a number of factors that all just combined enough for me to make it happen. 1) Work trip to Japan where I learned that many of the Japanese are dying to travel to the US, but hadn't even been to Hiroshima or Mt. Fuji; 2) Realized that since my wife and I didn't have a summer vacation planned, this was the year to see a few things in Iowa that I'd wanted to see for years; 3) Recent discovery of wherethehellismatt.com; 4) Being a photography buff for years, had just started getting into the video capability of my point-and-shoot; 5) For better or worse, I've been kind of a clown my whole life; 6) Fortunately, my videographers enjoyed road-tripping too; 7) Working in a job that lets me travel all over the US has helped me realize that Iowa and Iowans are wrongly stereotyped and for years, I've wanted to show outsiders that Iowa is a little more diverse that others think; 8) And on a micro-level, liquid courage served by the many small town pubs around the state helped make sure I stayed motivated. Are these good reasons to be motivated to do WIJ? Who knows, but I'm glad I did it - one of the most fun things I've ever done.

Re: Have you seen this guy yet?
Nice job Jeff. My son enjoyed counting all of the places on there that he had been. He came up with 18.
I'm sure you will be getting a lot of suggestions for WIJ2. Here are a few more.
"The Rock" just off of the Greenfield exit on I80.
Link... Patriotic Rock - Greenfield, IA
"The world's largest coffee pot" in Stanton

Re: Have you seen this guy yet?
The world's largest Cheeto resides in Algona - I couldn't find much besides this: LINK
If you're up in that area, you could always stop by Hobo Days in Britt: LINK
This was hilarious!

Re: Have you seen this guy yet?
Whoa c.y.c.l.o.n.e.s., I am definitely going to Manning to dance at the Hausbarn. I like the other suggestions, too. Anyone know the the scoop on the big Cheeto?

Re: Have you seen this guy yet?
HELP! I have started preliminary planning for WIJ2, which will cover a lot of what I missed in WIJ1, and will revisit a few of my favorite Iowa spots. I will definitely take advantage of the many suggestions I've already received (I'm pumped to see the Cheeto), but I need a little more help with SW Iowa and a lot of help with the NW. Any suggestions?

Re: Have you seen this guy yet?
That was great! You missed Storm Lake!
I had a big laugh at the Alta windmills, Okoboji and Spirit Lake shots. Brought back memories.
Just in case you didn't know... I'm a girl. -
Where is Jeff?
Based on the Where is Matt rage of several years ago, but Iowa based...don't know if people have seen this, but it made me a little homesick.

Re: Where is Jeff?
It was posted earlier here... http://www.cyclonefanatic.com/forum/...n-guy-yet.html (Have you seen this guy yet?)
Jeff himself was involved in the thread.
He is looking to do a "Where is Jeff 2" if you have any suggestions for him.
-
Re: Have you seen this guy yet?
Not sure if I need more suggestions now! The list was only 67 places long the first time, now its over 100 places, so it's going to be a busy year. Already started taping just to get a head start. Figured it was a good time to visit Sundown Mountain. Cool place!
