I have been told that the man that owns the Seven Flags fitness club - his name escapes me right now, the guy with the flying saucer house - made his first million by going door to door selling Kirbys. He then used that money to get into the fitness club business.

The Point? You ought to be able to find a vacuum of equal or better quality to a Kirby for around $600-700.
He inherited a lot as well.

Yeah and he has not spent one red cent on that fitness club in years, it is a DUMP! The only reason to go there is that they are close to the clive running trail. So you get a nice run, and then a cold shower in a mold filled room afterwards.

We have an Oreck XL which we bought because of our dog. It's seven pounds, and we have been very happy with it. The beater bar spins at about twice the rate of the typical vac and the bristles are thick.

The Kirbys are a great vaccum also but heavy, however, the extra weight helps on thick carpet.

If you go with either of these brands or something of similar top quality, the motor will last darn near forever so buying a used model on ebay is a great alternative, plus you don't have some punk a** kid hard closing you on your own turf. A high quality used unit will work better than an average new one.

Belts, bags, and beater bars are relatively cheap.
