    Re: Accountant referral?

I've always liked using TurboTax. It's straightforward, easy to use, and you've probably saved a little bit of tax preparation $. (Maybe not a lot, I haven't looked at having someone do them for a while.)

We've used it for various situations, like self-employment, multiple employers (between the two of us, we had 10 one year. It handles it easily), income from different states. It worked really well.

I think a good tax accountant is well worth it. I would look for a good one. If your taxes aren't complex, it shouldn't cost you much and he might just give you some ideas to lower your tax bill. At any rate it's good to develop that relationship so when your taxes do get more complicated they can lend some money saving advice.

Mine suggested some things late last year that knocked a ton off a particular onerous tax year. He paid for his help for years to come on just this year's taxes.

Having used tax programs for years, I now consider myself a convert.

A good tax preparer or accountant should more than save you their fee expense by what they save you in taxes each year. I always told my clients that if I wasn't able to save them enough to pay for my services than they wern't getting there moneys worth from me!!

Go to Jill Allen, CPA. She is located in the First Federal Savings Bank building on Duff. The firm is Kline, DeVries, & Allen. She is a real pro and a great person.

Not to hijack your thread, but does anyone have an recommendations for a small business accountant in the Des Moines area. My small little business has gotten to the point that I need to hire an accountant to keep better records. Thanks in advance.

Try Bill Caldbeck, CPA, @ 222-4400. His services sound right up your alley.
