One-Second Super Bowl Commercial
One of my favorite bands, Eels, is hoping to be able to afford an ad during the Super Bowl. The ads cost $100,000 per second, and that is what they are targeting to buy...one second of airtime. Eels Super Bowl Plans
I think the lead singer, Mark Everett, who is pretty much the band, is a musical genius. Maybe he is a marketing genius, too. Check out his music at Eels: Official Band Website Forever trying to find a cure for the Dunning-Kruger Effect. -

That is awesome, either way... :)

Re: One-Second Super Bowl Commercial
are they the ones who sing the song from Road Trip? "Goddamn right it's a beautiful day, uh huh."

Yes they are. The clown with a frown. I love that line Attempting to debate with a person who has abandoned reason is like giving medicine to the dead. - Thomas Paine -
Re: One-Second Super Bowl Commercial
A little background on the band...
Mark Everett is the son of a Nobel-caliber physicist, and has had somewhat a rough life despite the upper middle class upbringing. He has dealt with a lot of death and relationship issues in his life.
Electro-shock Blues is quite possibly the saddest, most beautiful album ever (if you're into that sort of thing). It's a far cry from the song you referenced above, but that's the one I would recommend if you like his stuff.
He's another one of those guys that should be selling a bunch of albums, but for whatever reason, is still under the radar.

I do like this band a lot... But this has to be a publicity stunt. What would you do with 1 second of air time?

It's going to flash Everett on the screen and he will say, "U" which stands for "Useless Trinkets" their new album. I assume there will be a website listed, because the rest of their "commercial" will be shown online.
I think you've got it right, though, it's a publicity stunt for a band that struggles to get publicity. Good move, I say. I hope he can scrounge up $100,000.

Re: One-Second Super Bowl Commercial
Very strange. But, I'll be watching for it. Maybe it'll win favorite commercial.
I believed in Gene Chizik and all I got was this lousy limited-edition commemorative coin. -

Eels - Electro-Shock Blues is the greatest album ever recorded. One that you are much better off getting the whole album rather than cherry-picking singles. Daisies of the Galaxy is excellent as well. Outstanding taste, isucyfan.
