    amazon.com delivery?

Anyone have any good or bad experiences to report on ordering a "big ticket" item from amazon.com? I'm mainly looking for delivery experiences in the Des Moines area.

I've got a bigger living room now and need to upgrade size from my 37" tv. I am pretty much dead-set on the 52" Bravia, but it is about $300 cheaper on Amazon than it is at Best Buy. I really want to have this tv by the Super Bowl which is 2 weeks away. I can't seem to get a delivery estimate from amazon without buying the tv first. I have seen mixed reviews from customers on the website, anywhere from 1 week (good) to 3+ weeks (bad).

    I'd appreciate any input. Thanks.

I have never bought a big ticket item like that, but I have never had a problem getting my items on time.

Amazon is just where the sellers come. Hopefully you know that the television would be delivered by a company more than likely that is not the same as someone else who bought one on Amazon.

Have you tried calling customer service?

You probably should if you haven't.

As CY ST8T said, though, I suppose Amazon may have little to do with this. I have never purchased a big ticket item, but I have always had good experiences with them and their third-party sellers.

Biggest thing I have ever ordered price wise was a macbook. I have ordered monitors from them, but never big tv's.

We just got an exercise bike delivered last week - about 70 lbs. or so. Not a dent or a scratch on it, and it came faster than expected.

    Re: amazon.com delivery?

Thanks for the input everybody, but my impatience got the best of me. The Bravia was in the American ad this morning, still $300 more than Amazon but it came with a free Blu-Ray player, worth about $300. Also a coupon for 5 free Blu-Ray discs of limited selection, but there's another $100.

Just ordered a new HDMI cable from monoprice as well, based on the advice I've seen before on this site. When you complete your order they ask where you heard about monoprice.com and there is a drop-down menu with a list of websites- CNET, etc.... but Cyclonefanatic.com wasn't a choice?!?!?

I've had good luck with Crutchfield in the past on large items, but no experience with Amazon though.

I think Crutchfield also offers "white glove" delivery on larger TV's which means in-home delivery and placed in any accessible room in your home.

I ordered my 63" TV from BestBuy. Great experience. Delivered as promised within the '2-hour delivery window'. Great communication after I placed the order online all the way through the guys showing up at my house.
