Re: For the travelers out there
I think I will stick to the plastic cups. Like bosinelosd I am a 5 second rule guy. Just yesterday my girlfriend dropped a pancake on the floor and would not eat it, I had to extend the rule to 15 seconds, but it was good anyway.
As for drinking out of a hose, I still do that when I am at my parents' farm. I am pretty sure it is the best water I have ever had.
Step 1: Cut a hole in the box. -

I travel a ton, and usually use the plastic glasses (if there are any available). A coworker sent this to me last week, and I almost threw up.

The only gripe I have about hose-water is that it tastes like the damn hose. Otherwise on a hot day I just let it run for a few minutes and then drink away. Its not like im drinking from the bird bath.

I read a study once (probably linked on here) about the 10 second rule and that it's real, as long as it's a dry surface. I've extended the 10 second rule to about 1 minute. I consider myself George from Seinfeld. Just the other day I threw away a cookie by accident after lunch at work. I realized it and reached in the garbage can and pulled it out. It was a very good cookie the caterer cooks everyday, and I couldn't let it go to waste.

I have to admit - the taste of leftovers kind of bugs me, too (especially when it hasn't been that long!), but that's a distant second to the germ thing.
Does anyone use the ice buckets at hotels? With or without the plastic baggies? I'm going to guess they're even worse.

Re: For the travelers out there
I just don't care about this sort of stuff. People have lived in filth for thousands and thousands of years. Dirty glasses have almost 0 chance of killing you or making you sick.
I think maybe I'm just the opposite of OCD. I'll cut mold off cheese and eat it, for instance.

Although spaghetti the next day is better than fresh to me. I think it is because the sauce soaks into the noodles or something. And yes the ice buckets and the ice machines themselves gross me out. In Orlando we stayed at a Best Western and the ice machines were outside. I could only imagine what had crawled around in that ice.

I have to admit (GROSS ALERT - stop reading if you don't want to be grossed out) - there's been a couple of times during my travels where I got the flu just horribly, and ended up having to get sick in the ice bucket in the middle of the night. NOT cool - and definitely discouraged me from using them again, as I realized who else might have had the same experience. The bugs are even grosser!!!

Re: For the travelers out there
Wow...lot of paranoia floating around in this thread. I've drank out of glass hotel glasses hundreds of times and I'm still alive. Also, I rarely get sick, ever. Last time was over 3 years ago. I agree with jumbopackage. And I do the cheese thing too.

Re: For the travelers out there
I think that is a gross video. I think that part of the problem is that people don't know what germs will and will not harm them. If you happen to drink after someone else, I don't know that it would hurt you much, but the chemicals/toilet gloves...etc. could do some real damage.
I bring a bottle of rubbing alcohol to hotels and sanitize various items before using the room.
Ok, here's another question...do you think bed and breakfasts are better or worse than hotels and why (germ wise)?

We haven't stayed in a hotel in years, but if we did, I would for sure bring some Clorox Wipes with me and try to sterilize the place as best as I could.

Re: For the travelers out there
Why people dont clean things correctly Ill never know. They have to know someday they could be using something "cleaned" by someone just like them.
