Fun, Ames is a stop. That should be wild. I wonder where they will stay.
What are the chances of a concert or some sort of "big name" entertainment being in town that night?
Wow Ames. Awesome. And I was thinking of skipping 2008! I'm there now.
There has been a lot of talk about Ragbrai avoiding Ames because of differences of opinion with the city adminstration. That was the rumor around the ride the last 5-10 years anyway.
This is great, I'm pumped! (even with 2 flat tires, -10 outside and a bum knee)
Campgrounds: IM fields, FB grass parking, M-W-L field, Towers field. Bus/vehicle parking: Towers lot, stadium lots.
That puts Hilton and JTS at the epicenter of the action. Since it'll be past July 1, the AD will have Hilton control. And you'd think they want to outdo Cedar Falls (UNI-Dome concert), too.
I may even ride RAGBRAI this year. A number people that I bicycled the Alaska road system with last summer already have plans to ride to ride RAGBRAI.
I rode RAGBRAI the second year it was held. Can anyone top that?
I was living in Carroll when they stayed over there. I'm not sure if I've ever consumed so much in one sitting.
It would be fun to at least ride from Jefferson to North Liberty. I have been told it's not the same unless you are on one of those big teams with a bus and all, is that true?
Personally - I hate those things. The few years I did RAGBRAI, we went self contained in a group of 4. Worked well for us and was alot more relaxed.
However, there is something to be said for not having to tote around 30-40lbs of gear - especially on windy days.
Who you're with probably has far more impact than how you do it.
I would recomend finding people to ride with that are really mellow. Nothing like biking 80 miles in a headwind or under oppresive heat then sleeping in a hallway with 15 other people to bring out how you truely feel about each other
Ragbrai is a blast most anyway you do it. Just be prepared to change a tire in a ditch, know which side to pass on and the rest is just biking and partying.
