    RAGBRAI '08

Ragbrai will be in Ames Tuesday night. Has Ames been an overnight town before? Any ideas for the campground - showers? About then I could use an airconditioned dorm room with shower if anyone has one. I suppose summer school students are invited to the beer garden.

Closer to July 22, when it is, historically, much warmer. We'll ride in from Jefferson that day and leave for Tama-Toledo on Wednesday. They might just avoid the campus entirely, though it would offer some amenities.

The Regsiter's website has a great map that shows all of the overnight stops in RAGBRAI's 35-year history.

    DesMoinesRegister.com | RAGBRAI's overnight towns, 1973-present | The Des Moines Register

Ames has been an overnight stop twice before, including the first RAGBRAI in 1973. The second and last time was 1983, so it's been a while.

Back in '83 I know they used the Stuart Park across from Hilton on Elwood (err University Blvd). I would assume they'd use that, Brookside Park, and many of the other city parks.

Will they camp out at JTS?

Or will they be staying at the most expensive house in the wholr metro area near Ankeny golf course:

    $4M pad.
