    Re: The Anti-Science Thread

Wow, so many classics that I have not read! Ugg, I really need to set some time aside to just read something enjoyable and get away from the text books from time to time.

Yep, that's it. Another even funnier coming of age book which was written by an ex-Simpsons writer is "I Love You, Beth Cooper."

It will take you back to your high school days, if you dare to go, band nerd. (You know I mean that in the best way possible.)

I forgot to mention Chuck Palahniuk!! He's my favorite modern author (usually I mostly read classics). I've read almost everything he's written - I felt so dirty reading Choke...

I've read all of Palahniuk's stuff, too. He blows my mind! I am in the middle of Invisible Monsters right now!

LOVED the Fountainhead. I try not to think too hard about Rand's politics beyond the Individualism theme.

regarding the title of this thread, Why must literature be "ANTI-science?"

I also like Invisible Cities, Moby Dick, and the Great Gatsby.

If you have read both Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead, you must be at least 60 years old or have incredible speed reading skills.

Are you referencing what happened in "Haunted"? That was disturbing, but what is even more disturbing is just that happened last summer to a 5-year old girl here in the Twin Cities.

Is that the one where they're locked up writing short stories? I think that's actually Haunted. You're right - THAT is the most disturbing thing I've ever read. Choke is about a sex addict who goes to restaurants and pretends he's choking to death.

I LOVE that book - the road tripping kills me. Good twist ending.

Maybe, I've read/own them all. They are all pretty twisted. Been awhile, miss my days in the Corps when I had time to read Now it's all about the numbers

I had JUST read Haunted in May, and heard about that in July or so. I freaked out when I found out it really happens!!!

LOL - I actually read both of those over the course of a couple weeks or so when I had a REALLY boring job.

WOW - right down to the cummings, that's very close to my library. That's kind of scary - haven't read Lysistrata, but I even love the same plays!! LOVE To Kill A Mockingbird and Gatsby.

Have you read Salinger's Nine Stories? Some of the most moving short stories ever - I love "A Perfect Day for Bananafish". Ties in a lot with Frannie and Zooey.
