Tivo with Rabbit Ears vs. Mediacom with DVR
So my wife and I are so sick of paying $126 dollars a month for digital cable and internet that we are considering scrapping mediacom and just going rabbit ears with Tivo. Thoughts anyone?

Get a Series 3 tivo so you can at least do HD. Then, honestly, you will be fine.

Does the series 3 record the HD off the rabbit ears OK? I have the original Tivo off cable, but have comtemplated going to OTA HD and wondered if the series 3 could schedule and record OTA.

Yes...it will look just as good at the OTA HD live.

Not enough sports on OTA HD...plus I watch alot of Discovery, TLC, Food Network, etc.

I've got a set of bunny ears, no cable, no dish. Its a good set of bunny ears though, and the digital picture on my new flatscreen is actually quite impressive. i catch wireless internet from a neighbor, so its awesome and cheap.

I'd say it depends on your viewing habits. Outside of sports, I probably watch less than 30 minutes of major network programming a month, so rabbit ears don't really do me much good.
If, like BrianHos, you watch mostly network stuff, rabbit ears and a tivo will suit you just fine. Just remember, you're still going to be paying for internet somehow or another. I think Mediacom cable without cable service is ~65 bucks/month.

A while back when KDSM was holding out HD on Mediacom I ran my S3 mixed. Every HD channel was cable HD except Fox, it ran OTA HD. It worked perfectly.
You could also drop to a basic cable and run the local channels HD OTA. That way you still get some ESPN even if it's a bad picture and still get some HD goodness.
