Hickory Park is like that song you like on the radio, but then it gets overplayed. It seems like everyone else still likes it, but you just want it to go away for awhile. After you haven't heard it for a couple of months, its good again.

Re: Restaurant question
We have tried 2 times to eat at Dublin before games. Always an hour wait. Last time we were there by 5:15 and it was still an hour. It is good, but not good enough to be late for the game.
I love the Irish Nachos, Bangers and Mash and Reuben. Those are my top picks there.
Hickory Park about once every 3 - 6 months is good enough for me. I acutally like Bandana's in Ankeny better! Much, much better smoked food.

Re: Restaurant question
It's pretty tough to get excited about the BBQ joints in central Iowa after eating at some of the places in KC. Sadly, Famous Dave's is probably better than most places in the DM area, but it's definitely no Jack Stack or Gates.

Re: Restaurant question
Dublin Bay rocks!! Their Irish Nachos are super good and they have great onion rings too. We go there every time we come back to Ames!!

I love Daves. The hot link and bbq wings are my fave. But yes, its not the same as KC bbq.

Kin Folks in Altoona has pretty good bbq and fixens (tat'r salad) and Papa Chubby's in Ankeny is pretty good too.

If anyone is looking for something to do on St Patty's Day, Dublin Bay gets pretty crazy. They have a heated tent in back, Irish band, Irish dancers, etc. Pretty fun, although I probably enjoyed it a little too much last year.

I can't ever eat it because it's enormous, but DB's pub pie is delicious. I think it has steak tips in the normal one - it's like an enormous pot pie, but better.
