Super Bowl Halftime - Tom Petty

I've never been one to watch Super Bowl halftime shows. Usually that is food & restroom time for me. However this year I'll definitely be tuning in as one of my favorites, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers will be playing. Any other fans out there? Any predictions on what he will play?

Two songs I really think he'll play are: Runnin' Down a Dream & You Wreck Me. I expect we'll hear American Girl as well. There are countless other's he could play such as Free Fallin, Learning to Fly.

I own all his/their albums so I'm familiar with more than just the "popular" songs. There are a number of songs I'd like to hear but generally for something like this only the really popular ones will be played.

Anyway, just thought I would see if anyone had any thoughts. Thanks.

Re: Super Bowl Halftime - Tom Petty

I have never been a fan of the halftimes as well. I usually watch them only because there isn't anything else to watch (Except that one year with the Langerie Bowl (spelling)). Most years are the stupid pop songs that does properly relate more to the generic watching audience, but has never appeled to me.

Even with Aerosmith on, I wasn't too impressed. Never been a big fan, so that probably didn't help. This year is the one year for once that I'm actually looking forward to it. Now if they would figure out the pregames.

He's not playing any of those. Here's his halftime plans:

Petty to just play Guitar Hero III for Super Bowl halftime

Should be awesome

Re: Super Bowl Halftime - Tom Petty

I saw Tom Petty in Omaha Civic Auditorium on the Hard Promises tour. He started with "American Girl" and never let up after that. Extremely fun concert. During his first encore I ran up to the front of the stage. I had a camera with me and started taking pictures. One of the security guys was about to take my camera away when Tom waved him off. That was pretty cool and I got some great shots.

I always liked the guitar in "I Need To Now". I was in high school when Damn the Torpedoes came out. "Refugee", "Here Comes My Girl", and "Even The Losers" were my favorites

That same summer Joe Walsh was on tour. At the time he was "running for president". He had a great backup band and the concert was a great deal of fun. He did some James Gang, and Eagles tunes...

Anyone see him in Des Moines. That was a decent show. So many pretty colors.

Half-time shows are invariably horrible. I don't care if Jesus formed a band and signed to play Super Bowl half-time, it would still suck.

And I, Bruno, will dive 1,000 feet into a block of cement. On my head, yet!

I agree for the most part - been very long time since there was a "good" halftime show. Many fall to demise because they try to cram too much into such a short period of time. And, the TV audience only sees part of it as well (from what I understand).

Whatever bowl game had ZZTop playing, that was a pretty good halftime show. I actually remember turning it up, and watching the whole show.

So many made fun of that one (because those guys are really, really old) but it was a damn good show.

TP is looking like the walking dead. I just hope he does not have a wardrobe malfunction I do not think anyone would want to see that.
