If I had a penny for everytime I heard someone say, "that's gay" or some slur along those lines, I would have not come to college because I wouldn't need a job in the future. I wish my tax money was going to better things than investigating steroids in Major League Baseball and bogus law suits. Why does our generation (college kids) have to be such pansies?
I agree on the steroid thing, there are a lot more serious matters. I didn't know why congress would even be involved in the steroid issue, or the Patriots spying issue, but on Dan Patrick's show they said it's because pro sports are immune from anti-trust laws, and so Congress plays a part in their regulation. I also think Roger brought on some of this himself with his comments about the Mitchell report.
Who cares? This is way overblown, and people call each other a lot worse than that all the time in sports. It reminds me of a program at our school called olweus. (pronounced oveus) that pretty much gets you in trouble for anything.
I still don't understand how we can define a "hate crime." The Law is supposed to be objective and yet a concept such as hate is completely subjective in nature in that it is an idea and thus completely open to individual interpretation. Do people realize how hard it is to force others to not hate something? I would say it is nearly impossible and putting punishment on hating something or someone is just going to institute more justifications for that hatred. Honestly, it doesn't even matter until it becomes a crime in the first place, so why then should we make any distinguishing factors between the two things. A crime is a crime is a crime - treat it as such, but punishing people for feelings is impossible since only actions can be witnessed objectively.
