Airline Service/Good/Bad or Ugly
When trying to fly back to Des Moines last night I was bumped from my flight due to "weight restrictions" 10 others got bumped with me, what did I recieve for my inconveince, $250 voucher, $10 dinner voucher only to be used inside the airport, a $5 dollar breakfast voucher..again airport only and hotel at the baymont and a morning flight.
To me this is hardly compensation for the time/sleep/work lost and hassel for the airlines mistake of weighing down the plan with fuel, or whatever precious cargo they accepted . I ended up returning the voucher and getting another flight back (I'll save you the long story) but what a pain in the BUTT!
And seriously what is up with every airport having wi-fi capabilities but wanting to charge $$$$ for their use for 3 hours.

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative. ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other." -

Re: Airline Service/Good/Bad or Ugly
when I flew to hawaii a couple yrs ago, (from denver), we backed out of the gate, waited for an eternity on the deck, then went back to the gate... the pilot indicated we were too heavy and a low pressure front or something was moving into the area... first time I had ever had that happen. However, they only kicked 6 people off the plane... now 6 people out of a full 767 doesn't seem like that much to me (ok engineers out there, don't laugh at me)... I guess 6 humans plus luggage might be a couple thousand pounds, but at one point I was thinking... did they kick ENOUGH people off? I mean how about 10? or 20? just to be safe? obviously we got off the ground and made it to the sandwich isles....
I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. It depends on whether the question is being directed to the puddle jumper airline companies or the larger airline companies.
The regional airline companies in Alaska are fantastic. They will adjust their elevation and flight plan due to passenger requests and the pilots are extremely personable.
We depend on airline transportation to go anywhere since there are no highways to travel on in Western Alaska.

Luckily the seat on the other side of me ended up being empty, so we both just scooted down a seat and left the empty one between her and him.
But then I ended up next to a protruding-elbow guy for the 9-hour flight back. Not fun. -

I'm 6' 5" guy so on the CRJ jets and I always get little old lady or 5 foot nothing man who feels the need to relax and put the seat back. My knees are glued to the back of the seats as soon as my butt hits the seat. Perfect posture is the only option I have, then those mententioned above try to slam the seat back when it doesnt ease back naturally after their 5th attempt. Thats when I let out the...AAAHHHOOOWWW!
Some think being tall is awesome, traveling is when it really sucks!

I ususally arrive at the airport 3 hours before my flight leaves just to get exit row seats.

Re: Airline Service/Good/Bad or Ugly
My wife and I were stuck in the Sioux Falls airport for over 7 hours when we tried to fly Allegiant to Vegas. They loaded everyone on the plane, pushed us out, and then figured out one of our engines wouldn't start. We unloaded and they tried in vain for about 2 hours to fix it before flying in another jet from Vegas. We loaded that one and got pushed out then had to wait about half an hour because the oil pressure in one of the engines was low. I was kinda wondering what happened to that oil between Vegas and there, but whatever. We finally departed a bit over 7 hours ahead of schedule, so of course the first night in Vegas was shot.
We got $50 vouchers off of our next trip. I'm not so enthused about the next trip anymore. At least it was a technical problem instead of a weight bump though. I think I would flip out on someone if I got bumped due to their stupidity in planning.

Re: Airline Service/Good/Bad or Ugly
I was on a flight from Boston to the Twin Cities routing through Newark. My flight in Newark got cancelled due to weather and what did I get? I 5 star stay in the airport for the night....flew out at 6 AM the next day.
However, it was pretty funny seeing what the air traffic controllers do at night when no one is there. They were doing cart wheels down the moving walkways and screwing around

Re: Airline Service/Good/Bad or Ugly
Took a red eye through Minneapolis once. My connecting flight was leaving Minneapolis at 7AM, I arrived at about 4AM. They were going to boot me because it was overbooked. I flipped out at them and said I should be the first one on the plane because I technically checked in waaaaaayyyyyy before anyone else. They should boot whoever shows up last, not someone that's been traveling since the previous night before.
