Schlitz beer is coming back!!
I attended the Minneapolis Food and Wine expo yesterday. Miller Brewing owns "Schlitz" beer and had a large Schlitz display. I inquired and they were serving samples, had videos going and explained that Schlitz is coming back. The original receipe has been reborn (actually tasted good) they are going to use the old slogans
"When you're out of Schlitz, your out of beer" etc and will be available in both bottles and cans. In the 1970s, Joseph Schitz Brewery was Number One nationally. We will see if it can be reborn. I happen to believe it will!
Re: Schlitz beer is coming back!!
Yay! Finally a beer that tastes worse than bud light, and I did not think that was possible.
Re: Schlitz beer is coming back!!
I didn't know it was gone. I had some at my brothers wedding last spring.

No my wife just referes to me as a beer snob. I do drink miller lite since it has the most flavor of any of the big time macro brews. I just really hate budwiser and bud light, they just have a bad taste to them, maybe it is the beechwood aging the hype up so much, but I LOVE beer, and hate bud. I think those are the only two beers I really just do not like.

Re: Schlitz beer is coming back!!
Schlitz is still sold at Hy-Vee in Ames...nothing like a 12pk of Schlitz and brats

I guess I have never had the pleasure of those. Gotta broaden my horizons. Last night I had Widmer Hefe, it was rather tasty.

Think cheap I'm just trying to get drunk beers.
Re: Schlitz beer is coming back!!
Dang, I like the return of traditional American brews. I'm a beer snob myself, but I have two favorite beers. The yellow, liquid kind, and the free kind.
I was surprised at how good the "new" Grain Belt is, compared to how crappy it used to seem. Is it that they have "fixed" whatever was wrong with the old beer, or have new beers become so godawful that Schlitz and Grain Belt now taste good?
Inquiring minds want to know....

When I was a regular at a pool hall in Red Oak, Schlitz was still being served at that was 11 years ago.

When I think of schlitz, I think of the Minnesota Twins.

Twins would be Hamms. They sponsored them for years.

I'm not really a beer snob. I've had a LOT of beer in my life, and I don't think that I would have an american macro over a micro or import most days, but if I'm at a bar that doesn't have much of either, I'll often drink a Schlitz, Strohs, Hamms, Old Milwaukee, OM Light, Milwaukee's Best, MB Light, PBR, PBR Light etc. just because it's something different. I mean if you're going to drink crappy beer, you might as well drink CRAPPY beer.
As to why Grain Belt used to stink, it had far more to do with their distribution system. I don't think the recipe has changed much at all, but it used to sit in 100+ degree warehouses for months and months before it made it to your store. You might be drinking year old beer that wasn't sealed as well as cans are sealed today.
Re: Schlitz beer is coming back!!
I've got a Schlitz beer sign but I have never actually tried a Schlitz. I cant wait to crack one open.
