Snow is coming?
Ok, so they just showed on the news that Ames Schools are closing at 1? Come on! It is winter in Iowa, why does everything have to close when we are going to get like 2 inches of snow?
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. - Benjamin Franklin 1775 -

seriously. When I was in school, they didn't close schools BEFORE it snowed. They closed them when the snow began falling. I don't understand this whole idea of closing because of the "threat" of snow. Weak.

Re: Snow is coming?
Why? Mobs of angry parents and lawsuits...

Re: Snow is coming?
You think that is bad, they canceled school here in Omaha one day last week because it was too cold. It was only like 5 below. What a bunch of pansy wusses our society has become.
No thanks to the trial lawyers and the idea that if I am too ...(you pick)

Re: Snow is coming?
In 5 years at ISU - I believe they cancelled classes twice. Once for a nasty blizzard in '90-'91 and once for the big floods in '93.
My wife is taking grad courses though Iowa here in DSM. They follow the DMACC class alerts to define when classes are cancelled and they have been twice THIS SEMESTER!
I know you're talking about El Ed and such, but it's all the same.

I know you're talking about El Ed and such, but it's all the same. Oh, ISU doesn't follow DMACC. Otherwise we would have been out a lot already!

Re: Snow is coming?
And once again, eastern Iowa is going to get the brunt of this thing. If you guys around the DSM area (or most other places) are tired of winter, spend some time in eastern IA. Those folks are beyond sick of it.

Re: Snow is coming?
They had to go until 100 to count it as official day.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

We got nothin' compared to what's been dumped up that way.

In my years at ISU we got classes canceled once. My sister goes to Kirkwood CC here in Cedar Rapids. And they have closed campus 3 or 4 times this month plus several late starts or early closings.
I am really ready for spring

I'm not sure why everybody's so worked up about it, so what if schools are more "wussy" with their cancellations? Maybe its an improvement from the old days. Most schools have a few built in snow days in their schedule already, and bad winters like this are the exception, what does 2 or 3 extra days of school in May or June really hurt?
