Re: Knee Pain
I Supranate badly, so about the only shoes that will work for me are the New Balance 8500 series. My current shoes are 6 months old, and they are 8507s. I generally replace shoes every 6 months anyways.
I also have a tendency to injury my left hammie. I've had this leg partially, well, um, "blown off" in a Darwin Award style accident when I was 13 years old. The accident involved heated gasoline and threaded pipe. But that's all I'm going to say about that....

I stuck them in a closet for a few years, put them on last fall for a day and the same darn thing started happening again! I threw those shoes away. I bought another pair of New Balance and acutally went down from 800 numbers to 700 series and they feel much better.

Re: Knee Pain
For liability reasons (so I am told) no-one else makes supranation shoes. They are actually dangerous for non-supranators to wear, as there is no sole at all in the inside of the arch, and if you don't supranate, you break your ankles.
Myself, if I don't wear them, it's pure agony.

Re: Knee Pain
I've had great luck with ECCO shoes. They're made in Denmark and are expensive, but last forever and have great support. Basically any knee problems I had went away after I started wearing them.

Re: Knee Pain
I used to run on the treadmill a lot at the gym I go to (Aspen). But now that I'm 28, my left knee would always be very sore the following day after running a few miles, and it was difficult to go up or down stairs without being in pretty bad pain. I started using the elliptical machines instead of the treadmills, and it has really helped. I can adjust the resistance of the machine to where I'm getting the same cardio workout as the treadmill would provide, and there is little to no jolting and impact to the joints.

Re: Knee Pain
My wife is a PT and she says stretching your quad throughout the day will help.
Also, funny as it sounds, stretching in the shower really helps. (Insert your jokes here) Your body is warm as it is if you work out. It's a good way to stretch out daily.

Re: Knee Pain
I tore my meniscus, and it hurts pretty bad, but It ended up healing on it's own, then I developed bursitis in the knee because of the meniscus tear, It's definitely not fun. It caused me to miss all of football season. :-(
