When is St. Patrick's Day this year?
Now, before you quickly shoot out a reply like "It's on March 17, duh, when else would it be?", first check this out: When is St. Patrick's Day 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013?
Apparently, the Catholic church is trying to move the holiday this year because it falls on a holy week this year (the week of Easter), and the Church doesn't like that. So, will there basically be two St. Patrick's Days this year, one for orthodox Catholics and one for the rest of us who will observe it on the 17th anyway?

I owe the Church a formal "thanks". As a lapsed Catholic, I guess this means I get to celebrate TWO St. Patrick's days. -

St. Patricks Day is always on my birthday. I don't know how that happens.
Also, if you want to know why Easter is so darned early this year, this should help... Computus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Change is the only constant in the universe, which is why I empty my pockets every day. -

Ok, I am not religious, when is easter supposed to be???
The only way I know it is easter time is Cadbury creme eggs are finally out. And then all of a sudden they go on a huge sale!

Re: When is St. Patrick's Day this year?
As a Baptist this doesn't affect me directly but heck, if all my Catholic friends need to celebrate it on a different day... who am I to complain about celebrating it twice?
I mean it'll be kinda like football this year... rushing the field the 2nd to last game because it'd probally be our last chance to do it, then rushing again the last game when we actually won (I didn't actually take the field the last game but that'd have been the mentality)
Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!!! In Accordance with Prophecy -

Hence "Computus." Computus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
That's how they calculate Easter. And the Orthodoxians calculate it differently than non-Orthodox.
It's very confusing. Thank Medieval popes for that.

Isn't SPD typically during Lent? We're not supposed to party during Lent anyway so what's the difference if it's during Holy Week or not. We're sinning on SPD every year. Bottoms up!

Re: When is St. Patrick's Day this year?
Since we're talking about Easter, Lent, etc. when do you think a kid is old enough to know about the real reason for Easter? It's easy to explain to a kid what the real reason of Christmas is, but how do you explain to a 5 year old why Jesus was put to death and then came back to life? I can see my kid asking if his great grandpa's can come back to life.
I'm thinking of just sticking with the Easter Bunny, eggs and candy for a few more years....

Comeon Brian, everybody knows that Easter is always on the Sunday immediately following the first full moon after the spring equinox ... what's so complicated about that ?
and Garn I think it depends on what type of introduction your children have had the faith. if they've been going to church every week or maybe to some type of sunday school or something they probably already get the jist of it and its won't be a big shock. If they haven't and this is something totally new, you may want to start with the dieing for us part and get to the resurrection at a later date.
