Recommendations on tires
It’s about time for some new tires. I have been looking around but wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations on where to buy (or have it done) and also brand? I have Michelin tires now but debating to go a different direction. -
Re: Recommendations on tires
I just got my tires from Big O in Ankeny. I got the Big O Brand (I think they might be made by goodyear) Seemed to be good bang for the buck plus they are warrantied with free roadside hazard (which came in handy when my wife ran over a nail) and free tire rotations. They have other brands too.
I got all 4 tires with all service for $400. Big O Tires, Inc. - A Reputation You Can Ride On -
Re: Recommendations on tires
I had Michelins and got Kelly-Springfield on recommendations from others. I am happy with them.
That being said, IMO tires are tires. I'd stay away from Goodyear though. I've never had them last for what they are rated for.

I bought some Kumhos going on about 2 years ago now. They have been good tires. I bought the all season high performance and got all four for $400 from a local install place. The owner said he would match Tireracks price and plus, the local place offered free rotations and a warranty for the life of the tire.

What kind of vehicle do you have? What kind of driving do you do?

Re: Recommendations on tires
Sam's Club has about the best prices around, provide free road hazard, and have a wide selection. I checked every place around when looking for tires for our van and even with paying the yearly membership fee the tires were still cheaper then the nearest priced competitor.

I'm also in the market for some tires for my Accord. Costco runs a sale twice a year. Also keep in mind that there prices include mounting.

Re: Recommendations on tires
If you are looking for good all-season tires, I've been happy with my Goodyear Regatta IIs. They're not too pricey and do really well on ice and snow. They do wear a little quickly if you do a lot of gravel driving.
For trucks, the best tires I've had have been Michelins. They do great on all road conditions and last for a long time. I have LTX M/S on my pickup now and won't get anything but Michelins for my truck.

Re: Recommendations on tires
Costco's price includes everything (mounting, disposal, etc) whereas Sam's Club just quotes the tire price. Once you add in everything, they're within a couple dollars. I've bought my last couple sets at Costco and was very pleased with the service.
As for tire brands, when making that choice you have to consider a lot of things. What kind of car, what kind of driving, how long do you plan on keeping your car, etc? I put top of the line Michelin's on my Tahoe for two reasons. It's the vehicle that my kids ride in and I'm planning on keeping it a long time.

Re: Recommendations on tires
Tire Rack, Tire Rack, Tire Rack! I am getting GoodYear F1 All seasons installed today on my car. Goodyear in ankeny wanted to charge me $910, TireRack was $606 shipped, plus $60 for Big 0 to install them.
Big 0 will also order tires for you from tirerack.com and you get an additional discount.
Remember, good tires are worth the $$, MrsBrianHos blew out a tire driving 70mph last weekend, and since I had Michelan Pilot Sports on there, the tire stayed pretty much on the rim, which allowed her to get off the road safely. A cheap tire would have shredded and put her on the rim in .02 seconds, and then I would have probably been buying a new car this weekend.

Costco's normal price was pretty good. Just a smidge more expensive than Tire Rack. But the selection was not as good. But they can also get about any tire you want. Costco rules!

Re: Recommendations on tires
I second the Kumho recommendation. I've been happy with mine, and they're a good tire for a great price.

Re: Recommendations on tires
Costco must have changed their pricing because 2 yrs ago when I bought my tires they were not very close at all. Are you guys telling me I need to switch memberships? Costco is closer to my house then "Little Mexico" Sam's....
