Re: Iphone question
It's not illegal. It will likely void your warranty and could potentially brick your phone.

Re: Iphone question
I've jailbroken my phone on several occasions, and currently have it restored to the current factory defaults. The 3rd party apps were nice, but seemed to bog down the interface. I'll wait for the Apple-supported 3rd party applications to come out in June.
The thing that will potentially break your phone is if you try to unlock it and use a different SIM card, I believe. As long as when you jailbreak your phone, you don't use any applications that change the core settings/file systems/whatever, you should be fine.

I think most of them managed to get unbricked, but it's a risk you run. Just like adding aftermarket parts to your car engine that void the warranty (i.e. nitrous and a turbo or something), if something breaks, you really can't hold the manufacturer of the original engine responsible for fixing it. I think it largely happened the first time because jailbreakign the phone required exploting a software flaw that apple fixed in the update (which was probably a good thing for iphone users overall).
Overall, I'd say the risk is pretty low, though.

Re: Iphone question
I get that people want to put extra stuff on their phones, but I dropped $400 bucks for my phone, there is no way in hell I'm screwing with it by jailbreaking it and potentially ruining it. No thanks!
I believed in Gene Chizik and all I got was this lousy limited-edition commemorative coin. -
Re: Iphone question
So overall..is the iPhone actually that great of a phone or is it the combination of everything that makes it good? Because I keep reading mixed reviews on it. I really want one, but I want to know all I can about it.
