Al Gore may also be the Democratic nominee to run for President if the Big O and Shill cannot agree - one of his buddies is pushing Al "Doofus Carbonless Footprint" Gore as an alternative replacement.
Just think, we might see Gore versus McCain In Charge Campaign.
Hope you guys that think global warming is a scam are right or our kids and grandkids will pay a dear price. The chief meteorologist at NASA, a conservative republican and former skeptic, now says the evidence is overwhelming based in part on satellite photos and carbon ice core samples, which can read carbon levels going back I believe about seven hundred thousand years. Carbon levels are now much higher than at anytime in the history covered by those samples. I also try to look at this with some common sense. We know that man made pollutants can weaken and even destroy the ecosystems in streams, rivers and even large lakes. We also know that the greenhouse effect is a proven scientific principle. For the first time in the history of the planet man has been pouring billions of tons of man made carbon and other pollutants into the atmosphere for over 100 years now. Common sense tells me that that just might have some adverse effects on the planet's system of regulating temps (the greenhouse effect). Keep putting your faith in dubya and blame Gore if you want, but he's only following the conclusions that have resulted from years of study by many of the world's leading scientists and meteorologists, including that flaming liberal organization called NASA. I'll just follow common sense in knowing that man made pollution has fouled up many ecosystems in the past and to think that we can't adversely affect the atmosphere is pure folly.
However, I will not just accept the fact that their is global warming. There is NOT overwhelming evidence, just a lot of theories. I do not see it as a liberal or conservative issue. I'm a Liberal, and don't like the issue being a partisan one. Everyone should look at the evidence and decide on their own. There are just as many scientists, organizations (liberal and conservative) that refute Global Warming, as there are that support it.
My main pet peeve is that a lot of times Global Warming is excepted as fact. It may be true or not, no one knows.
Will somebody please prove to me--beyond a reasonable doubt--that global warming doesn't exist?
Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't. But what's wrong with taking a little extra care to make the world we live in a cleaner place?
Why do most of us work so hard to keep our homes and workplaces clean? Does it kill us if we don't? Usually not. But does it make our quality of life better? I think so.
IMO, it's the same principle with our planet.
No matter whether global warming is real or not, it seems much of this thread exemplifies the "me-first" attitude that has overcome society. The fact is that there are better (and cheaper) energy solutions out there and if it takes the "global warming" scare to shift support to these alternative sources so be it.
I find it sad that a large number of people are willing to continue to pick up the soap for big oil just because they are afraid of change. I'd much rather take a few precautions now and possibly improve the future of my grandchildren than ignore the facts until it's too late.
We're 40% hydro but all the enviro laws from Washington DC to Washington state where I am exclude hydro from being a renewable. So we're forced to look for "alternatives" like wind. But you know the thing about wind? When we have extreme weather events here - either extremely hot or extremely cold - they involve high pressure systems when no wind blows. So we MUST back up nearly every megawatt of wind with some sort of fossil fuel to ensure we can keep the lights on in extreme events.
The whole thing has been - spend trillions of dollars worldwide and we don't know if it will do anything. All studies have shown that if we adopted all of Kyoto, the impact on global temperatures would be too small to measure and all at the cost of billions of dollars. THATS what doesn't make any sense to me....
For me it's not if it's real or not... it's just an Al Gore is a dill weed issue. I have my own beliefs about Global warming that half the people will agree with and half wont... but both sides will try to show me indisputable facts that prove beyond a doubt that their side is right.
I'm super cereal - manbearpig exists.
One thing that I think the "sky is falling" crowd doesn't realize is that we can't just get rid of fossil fuels overnight. Energy is the key commodity to modern society. Without it, people would starve, it is what allows our human population and standards of living to be so high.
Even if everybody trades in their Tahoes and Escalades for Priuses, it would make hardly a dent in the CO2 emissions. Commercial, industrial and other uses account for most of the CO2 emissions.
With all that said, I am all for the development of viable alternative energies and economically sound methods of reduction of CO2 emissions.
