Lawn Help?

I was doing yard work this weekend and noticed that my back yard is not looking real good. I take pretty good care of my lawn and fretilize throughout the spring-fall and also aerate in the fall. There are spots where the lawn is dead and there is no root system as well. When I ran my rake over it, all you can see is the dirt. This is pretty much spread out over my entire back yard. I am guessing it is some sort of fungus that grew with all the snow this winter... but not sure. A couple of questions:
--What is this? and what caused it?
--How do I fix it?

I know there are several experts out there regarding this topic so any info would help. There are some pics attached below of my lawn. It put me in a bad mood the entire weekend...

From the pictures it looks like this is a hybrid. This is a cross of Bluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, and Northern California Sensemilia. The amazing stuff about this is, that you can play 36 holes on it in the afternoon, take it home and just get stoned to the bejeezus-belt that night on this stuff.

Looks like maybe manganese.........or chinch bugs?

I'd give it a few weeks and see what it looks like. When you aerate it in the fall it tears it up pretty good, but that promotes root growth in the spring and those bare areas normally fill in.

It's a late spring this year and the grass has barely begun to grow. If it's still looking bad at the end of April, you can easily reseed the dead areas then.

Couldn't agree more here. Don't panic. Give it a little while, don't put anything more on it. Tough winter. It's too early to make any reasonable diagnosis.:smile::smile:

If it was Jerry Kluver, part of the solution would have involved urine.

I was just gonna say, a diluted solution of urine and vinegar mixed with some ground up matches.

Cannonball it!

I wouldn't get too concerned yet. As of today Dallas County(where I live) has a soil temp of 38 degrees. Things don't really wake up in the soil till around 50 and up. If it still looks like that after that, then you can be concerned but don't worry just yet. Here is a picture of the map so you can see what the temp is in your area.
