Why do you live where you live?

Would you prefer to live in a city, suburbs, or the country?

Is the climate a motivating factor where you live?

Are you living somewhere because of your job?

Are you living where you do to be close to family?

J-O-B. When I first moved to W Des Moines, I figured I'd give it a few years then bolt. I like my job and like DM a lot more than I thought I would so I plan on staying for awhile.

I live in the 'burbs because its close to my job. I hate commuting.

Re: Why do you live where you live?

We live in a rural area, but houses close by -- not really country but not really suburbs either. We love it. Lots of room for the kids and close to towns.

If climate was a factor, we wouldn't be in Minnesota.

My job is a big factor, but I could move elsewhere for more money with a lower quality of living.

We are fairly close to family. It's a big deal for my wife.

Re: Why do you live where you live?

I wanted to go to Iowa State and turns out, that's located in Ames. Apparently, you're supposed to move to wherever you're going to college at; at least that's why my high school guidance councelor told me.

I moved to southern Maryland 25 hours ago because of a job I'm starting on Monday.

I'm already getting sympathy from the local residents, as apperently there is nothing to do here...

Oh well, atleast I made it in time for THE event of the year in the Tri-county area - the opening of the Tiki bar at Solomon's Island

Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!

Re: Why do you live where you live?

I would prefer to live in the suburbs of a decent sized city, no larger than DM.
Climate is a motivating factor, but not the largest.
I have no job yet, but hopefully will when i graduate in Dec.
It would be nice to live near my family, but not too close. For example, i live in ames, my family lives in newton, that's about perfect.

Lastly, another big factor for me is to live near Ames, so i can continue to go to ISU athletics.

First job after graduation brought me down here. I do miss Iowa at times, but Austin is a pretty neat city and the climate is a big plus in the winter (but murder in the summer).

Re: Why do you live where you live?

Once I move after I'm done with college, job will be the main factor. Family is second, climate and location to St. Louis are tied for 3rd (just kidding).

I refuse to let my love of sports be the driving factor for my choice in jobs. Climate is important to a degree only because I want weather similar to Iowa (snow in winter, hot in summer).

Re: Why do you live where you live?

We moved to Arizona for my wife's job. We're staying because we love the weather. We live in Phoenix, but it's a suburban type neighborhood. Although I hate the cookie cutter homes and some of the snobbery, we like it because the school system is good and it's relatively safe. I have to admit though, when we come back to the midwest in the summers I realize how much I miss the green. Arizona is very brown.

Re: Why do you live where you live?

Moved here (Denver) for the job. Love it because of the weather, the people, and the things to do (skiing, golf, etc).

Want to move back to Iowa to be near family. That trumps everything else.

Re: Why do you live where you live?

Live in Ames, solely because the girlfriend isn't quite done with school yet. As soon as that occurs it'll be someplace warmer for sure. I don't care about size of city, but geography is important to me. Thus, I'd ultimately prefer Western Slope in Colorado, but I'll probably end up settling somewhere on the front range as a compromise for the lady, who prefers the city life.

In a related note, some place with lower taxes is also important. Property taxes around here are ridiculous. While it somewhat balances out with higher home prices elsewhere, I'll gladly pay more for something of value (my home) than in taxes.

Live in Des Moines right now, mainly because of friends and didn't really have to look to hard for a job or anything. We are thinking of moving to Chicago or somewhere in Texas (Austin, McKinney/Frisco) just for a change of pace...
