Have 9 year old daughters' birthdays coming up and am looking for opinions on which system to invest in. So I'd really like to know which is best (considering age and gender) and why. Thanks.

I've only had my PSP for a couple of months but wow is that thing powerful!!!
For no other reason than my nephew like DS more. I think it's just because he love Nintendo, but he says most of the kids that age prefer DS.
Me I prefer PSP - better everything in my opinion, but the kids really seem to love the DS.

A couple of years ago I bought a sister a PSP and a DS. She has never used the PSP.
I have a DS Lite and enjoy it. There are a lot of age appropriate titles to choose from. Among the titles I have for the DS are Zelda, Animal Crossing, Geometry Wars, Puzzlequest, Brain Age 2, Clubhouse Games, Mario Party DS, and Flash Focus. I play a ton of Boggle since it's only a 3 minute game.

DS. I cant get enough of it. Kids that age absolutely love it as well. Great games, huge selection.

I would say the ds is more kid oriented. But I had a psp and it was cool. Ds would probably have more kid games

Thank you Wes Johnson for the great 2 years you gave Iowa State. Wish you could've stayed. Best of luck to you, wherever you end up.
"The one thing I really want to say is to tell the fans thank you for everything," Johnson said. "You rooted for me, you were behind me with my injury, and I really appreciated that."

if you want to play it, get a PSP. Otherwise kids will only like PSP for the ability to play movies.

I have a 9-year old brother. We got him a DS for christmas and I'm not sure he has put it down since. Yes, it's April and he still hasn't put it down.
I thoguht for sure we needed to get him the psp being the big playstation fan I am, but the DS is no doubt the way to go for a younger kid.

I play my DS quite often, so I'd say that.

The 2 that I love the most right now are Dexter and Final Fantasy Tactics.
I got the slim PSP kit that came with mem. card, and Dexter.
Dexter is a very fun game with shade of the old Gex games.
And then I always was in love with the turn based strategy of FFTactics so that one was an easy pick for me.
Also they've got a God of War one that is new - very fun.
And Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core with is set before the time of FF7.

Considering age and gender, I would suggest almost 100% to go with the DS. The types of games available for the DS are a much better fit, IMO.
Between the Mario franchise that's been on the DS, along with other games like "Cooking Mama", or games in which you care for a pet, most of the DS games tend to be fairly tame, like the Pokemon series, although there's plenty others. Not to mention there tends to be more mini-game style things for the DS, like puzzle games or even Brain Age, which are less of your typical "gamer" type games that a 9-year-old is probably more likely to enjoy.

Contra 4 and Ninja Gaiden just came out for the DS! Of course a 9 year old girl probably wouldnt want those =)
